Spotted Cardinal Fish - Sphaeramia nematoptera - Pajama Cardinalfish
The Tank-Bred Spotted Cardinalfish is also known as Polka-dot Cardinalfish or Pajama Cardinalfish, and has a silver coloration with a black vertical line in the middle of the body, and brown polka dots covering the rear portion of the fish. The eyes are bright red in coloration adding to the overall appeal of this species. The Tank-Bred Spotted Cardinalfish is a very peaceful addition that will add diversity to any community or reef aquarium.
The Spotted Cardinalfish is found in Indo-Western Pacific region from Java to New Guinea, north to Ryukyu Is. and Belau to Pohnpei in Micronesia.
Minimum Tank Size: A 30 gallon or larger aquarium with a cave and peaceful tank mates is suitable for this slow and methodical swimmer. The Spotted Cardinalfish tends to hide in sea grass or other plants, or may use longspine urchins for camouflage. If a larger aquarium is available, it will handle a small group of this species. As a group, they will establish a strict hierarchy without aggressiveness. The Spotted Cardinalfish act peacefully towards other fishes.
Feeding and Diet: The Spotted Cardinalfish is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of meaty treats The Tank-Bred Spotted Cardinalfish requires a well balanced diet of meaty foods such as mysis and brine shrimp, flake and pellet foods, marine flesh, bloodworms, and depending on its size, live feeder fish.

Breeding: While this species has been bred in captivity, it has not been bred as extensively as the Banggai Cardinal, the Spotted Cardinalfish is a mouth brooder as well. There is a possibility that sexual differences can be distinguished through the length of the pectoral fins, but is inconclusive
