Radiant Wrasse - Halichoeres iridis - Radiant Wrasse
The Radiant Wrasse Halichoeres iridis is also referred to as the Orangehead Wrasse, Iridis Wrasse, and Radiant Africa Wrasse. The adult Radiant Wrasse has a dark red body with colors becoming lighter at the edges and fins. The head is a bright gold color with the yellow tones continuing along the dorsal fin. The color of the juvenile is more muted.
The Radiant Wrasse is a salt water fish and found in regions of East Africa. It is a carnivore and is reef compatible. Radiant Wrasse is an egg layer but is difficult breeding it in aquarium. The Radiant Wrasse may act semi-aggressively toward other fish but is not venomous.
Radiant Wrasse is a medium maintenance fish. It has a peaceful temperament. It is easy to take care of Radiant Wrasse. It is suitable to be kept in an aquarium with gravel or sand bottom. The Radiant Wrasse prefers a tank of at least 50 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim under if frightened, of other peaceful wrasse, including its own species. It is one of the shy species in the aquarium. This active water column swimmer is well known for jumping from tanks without any kind of covering. Hence proper care is to be taken about secure covering of tanks in which Radiant Wrasse is to be kept.
Radiant Wrasse is easy on feeding feeder shrimps, flaked foods, and marine fish. Radiant Wrasse is reported to readily consume fire worms, isopods, pyramillid snails, tubeworms, and flatworms and bristle worms. It may also eat parasites off of tank mates. Radiant Wrasse does not have a specific swimming level. Radiant Wrasse requires fine substrate to sleep in.
Maximum Size: Radiant Wrasse grows up to 4.5 inches.
General Size Specifications: The small size will come to you generally 2 to 4 inches and a large Radiant Wrasse will be about 4.5 to 5 inches.
Minimum Tank Size: The Radiant Wrasse prefers a tank of at least 50 gallons with plenty of places to move so that it can swim and hide from its tank mates as it mostly gets frightened by most of the fish in the aquarium. Radiant Wrasse prefers high light and a high water quality (SG 1.020 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).

Feeding and Diet: Radiant Wrasse is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of meaty treats including frozen mysis, saltwater feeder shrimp, squid, scallop clam and other crustaceans. Regular feedings should include a variety of prepared and live meaty foods, such as feeder shrimps, flaked foods, and marine fish.
