Pseudochromis / Dottyback

Pseudochromis / Dottybacks are a Carnivorous Fish of the Order Perciformes. A small, bright colored body is the most typical feature of a Pseudochromis / Dottyback. Fresh Marine brings to you a wide array of Pseudochromis / Dottyback species. Prior to proceeding to them however, let us look at the common features of Pseudochromis / Dottyback.

Compatibility. Pseudochromis / Dottybacks are aggressive & Territorial in nature, which is coupled with their Carnivorous food habit. Therefore, they should not be kept with other Small & Peaceful Fish, including Ornamental Shrimps. Owing to their aggressive disposition, it is advisable to keep only one or one mating pair of Pseudochromis in a tank. Most of the Pseudochromis are Reef Compatible and can be kept with Squirrelfish, Tangs, Surgeons, Live Corals, Live Rocks, and Invertebrates.
  • Habit & Habitat. Pseudochromis / Dottybacks are found on Coral Reefs or Rocky areas in Tropical Waters throughout the world.
  • Morphology. Pseudochromis / Dottyback is a bold, bright, beautiful, small, and hardy fish with a slender body, measuring 3"-7’ in length.
  • Ideal Marine Aquarium Environment. Pseudochromis / Dottyback requires high alkalinity with a Specific Gravity of 1.020-1.025, a pH of 8.1-8.4, and a Temperature of 72-78°F in the aquarium. Pseudochromis / Dottybacks, due to their small size, require a well-lit aquarium of minimum 30Gallons capacity. Pseudochromis / Dottybacks actively feed on Bristle Worms and keep their population under control. Place Live Rocks, Ledges, and Caves in your aquarium for Pseudochromis / Dottyback to hide behind. In addition, the tank should be large enough to provide ample swimming space to Pseudochromis / Dottyback.

Growing up to 4” long, Pseudochromis / Dottybacks require a minimum of 30Gallons tank size.
  • Fridmani Dotty back Fish (Pseudochromis fridmani). Also known as, Orchid Dottyback & Fridman’s Dottyback Fish, these Pseudochromis / Dottybacks are one of the most beautiful among all and are available in bright Violet color with a Black Stripe that runs from the Lip over the Eye on to the edge of the Gill Cover. The Scales of the Fridmani Dottyback fish bear a Dark Spot at the back. These Scales give a shaded appearance to these fishes. Growing up to 3” in length, Pseudochromis / Dottybacks require a tank size of minimum 20Gallons.
  • Royal Dotty back fish (Pseudochromis paccagnellae). Also known as, Bi-color Pseudochromis Dottyback Fish, this Pseudochromis / Dottyback is a fish with pure, natural colors. The front part is dominated by Violet and the back half is a blend of Orange & Yellow. Growing up to a maximum of 3”, a 10Gallons capacity tank would be sufficient for these fish.
  • Springeri Dotty back fish (Pseudochromis springeri). Also known as, Springer's Bluestriped Dottyback Fish, Springer’s Dottyback, Springer’s Pseudochromis, and Springeri Pseudochromis, these Pseudochromis / Dottybacks have a dark Blue colored body with three vertical face bands of Light Blue & Deep Blue at the edges of the Fins. Growing up to 3” in length, these Pseudochromis / Dottybacks require a minimum of 30Gallons tank capacity.
  • Strawberry Purple Dotty back fish (Pseudochromis porphyreus). Also known as, Magenta Dottyback, Strawberry Gamma, Purple Dottyback, & Strawberry Dottyback Fish, these Pseudochromis / Dottybacks have a Purple colored body. Growing up to 2.5” in length, these Pseudochromis / Dottybacks require a minimum of 20Gallons tank capacity.
