The Striped Sweetlips, also known as the Silver-banded Sweetlips, has a silver body with four dark brown horizontal stripes; the fins and the dorsal edge of the body are light yellow. Large dark spots also mark the fins. The Striped Sweetlips have a total of 13 dorsal spines, 17 to 18 dorsal soft rays; 3 anal spines, and anal soft rays numbering upto 7.

Juvenile Striped Sweetlips look very different from adults. They are black with two yellow stripes above, and yellow below. Juveniles become somewhat deeper-bodied with growth and at a size of 14-16 cm, loose the lower stripe and develop a cream-colored belly

Adult Striped Sweetlips are found as solitary individuals or in pairs on outer reef slopes. Juveniles are usually seen near the lower reaches of rivers and adjacent reefs.

This fish can be found at depths of 2m to 50m. Any good general water quality seems to work

Maximum Size: The Plectorhinchus albovittatus grows up to 20 inches.

General Size Specifications: The small size will come to you generally 1½ to 2 inches; the medium generally 2 to 3 inches; the large generally 3 to 5 inches.

Minimum Tank Size Suggested: The Stripe Sweetlips Grunts/Sweetlips prefers a tank of at least 150 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.

Tank Conditions: The Striped Sweetlips require a temperature range of 72 - 82°F, pH valuing between 8.1 and 8.4 and specific gravity varying between 1.020 and 1.025. They have a natural diet of benthic invertebrate.

Habitat: The Striped Sweetlips occurs in tropical marine waters of the Indo-Pacific, from East Africa, north to Japan, south to Australia, and east to Fiji. In Australia it is known from the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland.

Feeding and Diet: The Striped Sweetlip fish need a meaty diet, i.e., chopped fresh fish or shrimp flesh, scallops, and squid, and requires two or three feedings per day. The Juveniles prefer mysis and enriched brine shrimp, also black worms. When first introduced into the aquarium, live saltwater feeder shrimp should be used to entice Striped Sweetlips fish to eat.
