Taxonomy: Reef Haitian Anemone belongs to the Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Cnidaria, Class Anthozoa, Order Actinaria, Family Actiniidae and Genus Condylactis.

Scientific names: The scientific name of Reef Haitian Anemone is Condylactis species. One of the commonly occurring species of Reef Haitian Anemone is Condylactis passiflora.

Other common names: Reef Haitian Anemone is also commonly called as the Hiatian Anemone, Atlantic Anemone, Pink Tip Anemone, Haitian Condylactis and Condy Anemone.

Origin or natural range: The Condylactis species is found in the Indo – Pacific region, the Caribbean Sea and the Western Atlantic Ocean.

Color: Reef Haitian Anemone occurs in green, purple, pink, tan, brown and white colors.

Compatibility: The Condylactis species is aggressive towards the other marine aquarium invertebrates.

Habit & Habitat:

• In their natural habitat, Reef Haitian Anemone is found solitarily or in loose groups on lagoons or on inner reefs and hides its base in the sand or rubble with only its tentacles exposed.
• The tentacles of the Condylactis species apart from helping in feeding, work as a defense mechanism for the Anemone as well.

Morphology:

• Reef Haitian Anemone is quite hardy and is beautiful to look at.
• The oral disc of the Condylactis species is sixteen inches or forty centimeters in diameter.
• Reef Haitian Anemone has single polyp with white, long tentacles having pink, magenta or purple colored tips.
• The tips of tentacles have stinging cells, nematocysts.

• The Condylactis species eats acellular marine invertebrates, the meaty bits of shrimp, fish, krill, squid and silversides, Mysis Shrimp, zooplankton and phytoplankton.
• As soon as the prey touches the tentacles of Reef Haitian Anemone, the food is stung by the nematocysts in the tentacles of the Anemone. As a result, the prey paralyzes and is carried by the tentacles to the mouth of Reef Haitian Anemone.
