A tight-fitting lid is required to prevent escape.
The Garden Eel is a peculiar species that stays buried in the sand with its head sticking out. When kept in large groups, these eels have the appearance of a bed of seagrass. However, when startled, the eels will retreat into the sand. A tight fitting lid is highly recommended to prevent escape, as well as a minimum of six inches of sand. This species also requires low water current, and décor should also be kept to a minimum. Non-aggressive tankmates are a must.
