The Dogface Puffer also known as Arothron Dogface Puffer, Blackspotted Puffer is indeed a great addition to the fish only aquarium. The Dogface Puffer It is a medium maintenance fish. It may sometimes act semi-aggressively toward other fish. Its flesh is poisonous and it is not advisable for human consumption. The Dogface Puffer eats invertebrates for one specific reason, as it needs to keep its teeth worndown.

The Dogface Puffer fish is a saltwater species that are found in an area stretching from the area south of Japan to east Africa and south Wales. Adult specimens are usually aggressive. The Dogface Puffer is not suitable to be kept in a reef aquarium with small species, as it will predate such species. The Dogface Puffer fishes are reef safe. And usually, they don’t cause any damage to corals.

The Dogface Puffer fish is suitable for an aquarist who is at least moderately experienced . It is usually not advisable to keep two dogface puffer fish together in the same aquarium owing to their aggression. They are highly territorial specific and keeping several specimens most likely requires an aquarium of at least 6000 L / 1500 gallon. Such a large aquarium is definitely needed in order to ensure the safety of the Dogface Puffer.

It is not advisable to keep two specimens in a small aquarium, as it leads to the death of both the puffers. In case of a smaller aquarium, the decoration can play a large role in ensuring the safety of both the puffers. But it is advisable to keep them in separate aquarium.

Due to poor water quality or the aquarium setup, the Dogface Puffer fish can sometimes be hard to feed. They are usually easy to feed once they start eating and can be kept on a diet of shrimp, squid, marine fish, clams, crabs and other meaty marine food. No information is available about breeding this species in aquariums.

Maximum Size: The Dogface Puffer grows up to 13 inches
